Dynamic Mathematics Visualization for Young Learners:
Sketchpad in Grades 3-8.
A Working Conference for Researchers, Curriculum Developers, and Educators. 7-9 February 2003

Conference Mission
A solid infrastructure—of software, curriculum, and research—must be developed to support Dynamic Geometry visualization in grades 3-8 in order to meet the mandate of the NCTM's Principles and Standards. Strategies for maximizing the widely-perceived potential for impact of Dynamic Geometry technology at these grade levels will arise only from within the public community of researchers, curriculum developers, pre-service instructors, classroom teachers, and technologists. This working conference, held at the University of Illinois at Chicago in February 2003, aimed to bring together leaders in this community to begin formulating a response to the NCTM's professional call, and to begin developing a curriculum and software structure around The Geometer's Sketchpad technology in support of Dynamic Geometry visualization for all young learners.
This material presented here is based on work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant ESI 02-43196. Opinions expressed are those of the authors and not necessarily those of the foundation.
